Caddis fly JeweleryI'm not sure what direct relevence this has in the scheme of design and sustainability, but i'm always fascinated by art involving biology and natural processes. Hubert Duprat has been working with Caddis Fly larvae. Their natural behavior is to build protective cases for themselves out of sand, bits of shells, whatever they find around them at the bottom of ponds. They discard their shells when they develop into adult flies. By taking them from their natural environment and introducing the larvae into an aquarium filled with flakes of gold and precious stones, the larvae set to work creating beautiful constructions, which are collected by the artist when they are discarded by the insect.

working close to natural
working close to natural processes must be involving and exemplary, but it's an interesting point to ponder
